When you paint it it will still look like tumbled marble because of the texture but the finish on it will not be authentic. Standard plaster is more susceptible to damage from imbalanced pool chemistry which can result in slight shading scaling staining etching cracking or delaminating in extreme cases. With chalk paint you can cover marble in one or two coats with little to no sanding beforehand. If using traditional venetian plaster hang tarps over your surface so that it will dry slowly and evenly.

There is no doubt that painting over marble can be challenging but only if you do it the old fashioned way with hours of preliminary sanding. As you can see there is some subtle texturing and even more subtle color variation. Then immediately wipe away any plaster that gets on surfaces you are not plastering. The only thing you would be achieving would be to change the colour of the marble but you would end up with a very ugly backsplash.

I got valspar the lowe s brand which is not truly venetian plaster but a faux venetian plaster. Plastering over old stone walls me using my new tyzack trowel with some sand and cement.
