Pressing Copper Sheet

Hammer a nail into both ends of the copper sheet and into the plywood. Place the copper metal sheet upon the work surface front side down. Hammering a copper sheet that is hardened can lead to disaster because it becomes more brittle tears or cracks under stress. Draw the design for the copper onto a piece of tracing paper.

This will secure your copper sheeting in place while you are hamming the copper. If an elaborate copper project is underway it will need to be annealed a number of times. Tape the tracing paper onto the backside of the copper. Firmly rub the embossing stylus along the lines of the drawing pressing into the metal.

The hammer blows need to be deliberate a and focused but not hard. This will give you the most control over your ability to hammer and indent the copper sheeting.
