Unlike other awnings our nomadic 270 requires no poles to set it up because of the pair of reinforced oversize hinges and heavy duty rafters. It worked out quite well and have had no trouble since. In many applications either homemade or otherwise over tightening or pulling down your awning from the wrong angle can actually damage the awning.

So with your rod go to the center of your awning and you should see a strap. With the help of your awning rod pull the lever of the cam lockdown till you see it in the roll down position which you can read on the writing on the cam lock of the awning. You can use your hands to pull the strap the rest of the way until the awning is fully extended. If the awning strap has not yet broken insert an awning rod into the loop on the strap and pull to open the awning.

Use the rod to pull the strap straight out opening the awning. There was not enough left for even a 3 8 lag bolt to grab and after a little thought i used a couple of butterfly bolts to re secure the awning. With the cam locks and the travel locks undone you can now go ahead and open the awning. There are four main awning styles available including pull style in which you pull a strap to open the awning hand crank in which you rotate a rod to open the awning hardwired which have a motor and must be wired to the rv and battery powered.

Roll out the awning using the awning rod. If the strap has broken you will need to manually roll the awning out. On my old trailer the top awning mount pulled out of the side of the trailer.
