The braces struts or kickers should be within every 4 and should not be at a greater than a 45 degree angle towards the roof slope lower side. The first common rafter attaches to the end of the ridge. They are inclined members spaced from 16 to 48 inches apart. The spans in this table are based on a maximum supported rafter span of 16 feet where the supported span is the total horizontal distance spanned by the roof rafters divided in half not the diagonal distance or the length of the rafter.

Roof is designed as a supported cone roof. Rafters are nailed to the plate. Hi all i am new to this rafter lingo and techniques but am building a shed that is 16 x16. From the second floor i have added another 2 framing around on which the roof rafters will sit.

I plan to have 2 10 joists so there will be a second floor. In finding this location we do not count the additional length of the rafter that supports the roof eaves overhang or soffit. Like framing a hip roof framing a cone or in this case a half cone begins with three common rafters. So this table could accommodate a house with a total rafter span or house width of 32 feet.

The tops of inclined rafters are fastened to the ridge or another rafter depending on the type of roof. Rafters rafters make up the main framework of all roofs. The system of rafters is provided to support the roof plate. Good access exists to tank for equipment and materials.

Then the other two king commons support the ridge from the sides. By upper third here we mean one third of the length of the rafter from ridge to top plate. Purlins as shown in sample photos below are installed for rafter support. Doorsheet is a minimum of 8 high x 8 6 wide.

No hours are included for a dedicated fire safety watch. They are 90 degrees to the ridge and to the other king common. Rafters rest on the top wall plate.
